I had so much fun planning my baby boy’s first birthday party. Since Carson hadn’t really developed his own “favorites” in terms of party themes by the time he was one, I picked classic Winnie-the-Pooh, purely because I thought it would be adorable and fun to put together. It was surprisingly difficult to find classic Pooh decorations, but in the end, I was able to find just what I wanted to complete the party look.
First, I found the perfect invitations on Zazzle.com and sent them out about six weeks before the party. We were so excited to host our first party in our new home!
Once the invitations were out, I slowly started collecting classic Winnie-the-Pooh items as I found them. I also started looking for my favorite photos of Carson so that I could print and hang them up in the windows.
The birthday boy was already scoping out his present area before the guests arrived!
I picked up the baby blue table cloth and gold “one” balloon from Target, the glitter paper confetti from Amazon, and I already owned all of the serving dishes.
After using these Pooh books and Classic Pooh Mini Jinglers for an attempted photo shoot with Carson (see below), I added them to the table arrangement. The classic Pooh books I purchased can be found here, here, here, and here. The Classic Pooh Mini Jinglers must be discontinued because I could only find them on eBay, and even then, I couldn’t ever find Eeyore.
We ordered Carson’s smash cake from the bakery of our local grocery store, HEB. We kept the cake simple, but I did top it with this Pooh cake topper from Etsy that you can see in a photo below.
We found out shortly before Carson’s party that someone we knew in college made beautiful cookies, so we hired him to make Carson’s birthday cookies – honey pots and “1s” with bees on them!
I make the funfetti cupcakes and topped them with adorable classic Pooh quote cupcake toppers I found on Etsy. It looks like the shop doesn’t sell these exact toppers anymore, but you can order a kit to make your own here.
Before our guests arrived, we tried to do a little photo shoot with some of the cute party decorations. Carson had other ideas!
The name banner was also an Etsy find (click here). I found the Pooh pillow at Target.
When the guests started to arrive, some went outside to play with Carson’s new bubble machine, and others stayed inside to eat Chick-fil-A.
We did a “time capsule” for Carson and had friends and family write notes to put in a box for Carson to open when he turns 18. I found the below Pooh time capsule printable and cards on Etsy.
Toward the end of the party, it was smash cake time! We decided to do the smash cake at the birthday party instead of in a separate photo session so that everyone could watch!
I know that’s enough cake smash photos already, but my sister Ellen brought her Polaroid camera, and took a few more I had to share.
We had room full of friends and family and feel so loved and blessed to have many wonderful people in Carson’s and our family’s life! Carson had a blast but wore out really quickly after cake time. He opened one present, but we quickly decided to put him down for a nap and instead extend the birthday fun throughout the week by opening a few gifts each day!
